Dear manager, are you familiar with the scenario that you are busy with the core of the organization and one fine day you land on another complex project on top of your role?
It is clear to all of us that the role of the project manager in construction/infrastructure projects is to plan and deliver the construction or infrastructure project in the engineering sense of the word and that every project has a beginning and an end.
So the question arises, what is a client-side project manager and why should you have one when there is already a project manager building the project?
It is not always so clear what a client-side project manager does and what value he brings to the planning and delivery of a project.
That's why I thought I'd share my heart's thoughts with you, just so I can help each of you understand what client-side project management is.
The reality on the ground is that most of the managers "pretend" to understand well the project management from the contractor's point of view and that they all "identify" with the contractor and with the supervision from a legal and contractual point of view of course and understand what was agreed upon during the construction tender phase.
But what managers don't understand is that project management begins long before the planning and ends long after the delivery of the project and all that it implies, therefore it is important to understand the nature of the project and the client's needs and that they connect to the day after, that is, to the operational concepts of the organization.
So who is a client side project manager?
A manager of client-side projects should not be an engineer in the field he manages, on the contrary. It is better for him to understand the field but focus on managing the engineers so that he is emotionally detached from the engineering decision but is strongly connected to creating integration, twinning,
Involvement, knowledge management and correct situation assessment through the eyes of the client and the interests that the project will serve.
A client-side project manager can be integrated at various stages in project planning, but it is often better to be integrated from the beginning of the initiation of the idea in order to create the true value of a dream and reality and to create continuity in the decision-making axis of course
In organizations where managers change all the time, thus enabling the connection between the dream and reality.
For example, we have seen in a number of government and private projects that as soon as we enter into planning in the early stages it was possible to understand the consequences of time, cost and quality in great detail, which made it possible to understand the feasibility of the project and above all made it possible for the decision makers to get a complete picture of the situation - only in this situation can we bring the The organization for an attainable dream which will inevitably become a reality.
